Delhi Police Cracks ₹54.5 Lakh Robbery Case: Complainant Turns Out to Be Mastermind

Delhi Police has solved a sensational ₹54.5 lakh robbery case that initially appeared to be a daring daylight heist in Old Delhi. After a six-day investigation spanning three states and involving the analysis of more than 500 CCTV cameras, police discovered that the alleged victim himself had planned the crime.

According to investigators, a 23-year-old employee of a money transfer agency reported on May 26 that two men had assaulted him near the Chandni Chowk area and escaped with a bag containing ₹54.5 lakh. Based on his complaint, a robbery case was registered and an extensive probe was launched.

However, while examining CCTV footage and questioning the complainant, police noticed several inconsistencies in his version of events. Investigators found that he neither resisted the alleged robbers nor made any serious attempt to pursue them. His statements also changed during repeated questioning, raising suspicion.

Further investigation revealed that the employee had conspired with his cousin and four other associates from Rajasthan to stage the robbery and misappropriate the cash. Police said the group had planned the operation after learning about the movement of large amounts of money handled by the employee.

Delhi Police carried out raids across Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, arresting all six accused. During the operation, officers recovered approximately ₹50 lakh of the stolen amount. The investigation covered nearly 3,500 kilometres and involved interstate coordination, technical surveillance, and extensive CCTV analysis.

Police officials described the case as a "self-staged robbery" and credited the breakthrough to detailed forensic examination, surveillance work, and coordinated efforts between multiple teams. Efforts are continuing to recover the remaining money and complete the investigation.
